Statement of State Representative Dan Brady on the signing into law today of House Bill 3653, “Criminal Justice Reforms” passed in the final hours of the 101st General Assembly’s lame duck session in January.
“I am disappointed that the Governor today signed legislation that clearly needed more work. While there are some good points in the legislation, they are overshadowed by measures that will handcuff police and allow violent offenders back onto our streets…that endangers our families, and members of law enforcement,” said State Representative Dan Brady (R-Normal). “After the legislation passed in January I asked that we bring all parties back to the table to work on a better, more balanced approach. Though it has now been signed, I will continue to push for negotiations this spring on changes that will better protect everyone in our state.”
